Don't toss those old appliances!

Well, as is typical I am sure, recording guitars through amps always poses the problem of sound containment. I can get that great sound through that Marshall, or Mesa Boogie amp, but I risk ticking off my neighbors, not to mention the bleed over onto other tracks. I don't always want to lug all my recording gear down to our rehearsal spot just to get that track overdubbed.

I was getting set to spend a weekend building some amplifier boxes. I had seen plans for one in a book on recording and using 2"x4"s, plywood, and inslulation board you can make a pretty cool sound enclosure. Leave enough room for cables and you can put a 57 on the cone, crank it up to "11" and jam away with no worries.

Well, my astute girl friend heard the idea and said "What about that old freezer on the side of the house?".

Eureka! I pulled the old freezer box into my studio, lined it with some old carpet, placed my Mesa Boogie in it with the volume pedal and effects cables running into the box, cranked it to "11", stuck a 57 on the cone, closed the door and away we we went! Absolutely gorgeous tone from the Boogie and no fear of the neighbors calling the police!

Now if I can only find an old box big enough for my drummer....

Why get a bigger box for your drummer? Just cram him in there...he won't mind.

LOL! Yes, he'd actually feel right at home since he is in jail so often...

What is it with drummers?

Drummers are upset that they are always at the back of the stage. They believe it is time the rules change and put them up front. That way they will be less aggressive off stage.

As an added bonus, you can teach your kids how to play hide-and-seek in the old freezer.

Better yet! Turn the freezer into a big bong then have a hippie guitar noodlefest!

Call it a progressive jam.

What do you call a stoned guitarist with his hair on fire ?

A lamp.

I heard this one great guitarist the other day and that was enough.

HA HA HA

What do you call a bad guitarist ?

A recording engineer!

HA HA HA

What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine?

You only have to punch the information into a drum machine once

Thumbs up

I had asked for suggestions on this site for building an isolation box several months ago and someone suggested an old freezer (which instantly made perfect sense to me.)

I've been watching for a used one in various ads - since I don't have one sitting around (hell, I would take the meat out if I had one!!! (haven't found one "cheap enough" yet) - but I did mention it to a guitarist friend who did have an old freezer. He tried it (he also lined it with carpet) and he loves it (he pushed his Hammond into a corner to make room for his new "isolation box").

Your girlfriend is a smart lady!!!

Oh - and hey, I'm a drummer and I find drummer jokes very offensive (at least the ones I understand)

Most my session players are midgets for that very reason. You can actually fit a guitarist in there with the amp.

LOL! As a bass player, I love my drummer! It is his probation officer I have issues with.

As far as my girlfriend, yes, she is smart, and she is also very sexy, can sing, and cooks to boot! I am one lucky man...
