Mono
I'm coming to find out that switching from the stereo image to mono almost equally when mixing helps greatly when trying to accomplish distinction amounst instruments. Panning, eq, and phasing issues seem to me, to be more obvious when in mono. Can anyone verify this or would anyone care to expound on their adventures in mono based on personal experience?

If you can acheive a good mono mix, then it is a good indication of having a solid mix. It's an old, but effective, technique........

If your mix sits well in mono - meaning you can clearly hear all the mix elements sitting in their own sonic space - then chances are quite good that you have a tight, cohesive mix that will sound even better in stereo.

I mix in mono until the very end....
If you can seperate elements outside of the realm of stereo by using balance, compression and EQ you will get that extra edge when you pan things. |

Fantastic. Yes, since I've been spending more time in mono, I've noticed a vast improvement.
