i think you'll need to post more information about your recording setup before people can give a decent reply.

give some details about the sound card, cable, pre amp and anything else you think might be useful.

You need a microphone preamp if you don't have one.

What type of sound card do you have? do you have a mixer? tell us more...I seems like you will need a small mixer to get your phantom power but first you need to give more info on your set-up

smurfdoran,

You have purchased a condenser microphone. Condenser microphones require phantom power. Also, phantom power won't work with your XLR-1/4" cable. You need a cable with XLR at both ends to get the power to the microphone.

You will need to purchase a preamp, which will supply both phantom power and amplification of the microphone signal before going into your soundcard. For something cheap, you could pick up the ART Tube MP, or M-Audio Audio Buddy. If you have a little more, I would suggest getting something like the Studio Projects VTB-1, M-Audio DMP3, or a small mixer (if you anticipate needing to use more than one microphone in the future).

So, your shopping list is:
1) preamp or small mixer
2) XLR-XLR mic cable
3) 1/4"-1/8" TRS cable to connect from the preamp to your soundcard

dude get a maudio pre usb, hooks your mic in by usb 60-150 dollars depends, also I suggest upgrading your sound card, your can get a sblive for liek 60 bux or so...

also you will need a program to record with, there are shareware ones, and ones you can buy, your choice.

they are correct when they say since your mic is phantom powered, you cant just plug it in... The maudio has a switch on it for phantom power, and will use usb to feed it to your sound card. The maudio is actually a sound card, but I have tested it and prefer the sblives output to the maudio which just was not keeping up. which neither was my nforce soundcard.

and being a noob is not a problem with most people. especially if you know it, and you dont try to hide it. just as you did and didnt.

really your always a noob, or you have a ego one..
