unwanted fade in

For the last couple weeks, everytime I record guitar tracks, the track kinda fades-in (on playback) like it's overloaded when i hit that first note. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

1. check the track in both edit view and multi-track view and see if you have the same problem.
2. make sure you have not applied any effects to that track.
3. there is no 3 at this time...but ill try to think of something...

Try to record your guitar while your windows mixer is on the top of screen.

It happens that sound card controls signal in automaticly and does not allow it to be to high and fade it down after first too loud signal.
I saw this happened on some other software but it was controling microphone input. Not Line In.
Do you connect your guitar directly to your sound card or using a Microphone?

Still, it never happens on Adobe Audition.

I posted in the newbie forum about not being able to control the amount of bass in the guitar...i had it running through the mic jack instead of line in..I run it through 'line-in' now, the low end is normal and the tracks i record sound great.

I tried recording with the windows mixer open...I have no effects on anything...it does it in edit view, and multi-track view...and since thajeremy had no number 3, i made one up and tried recording with a hat on...still no luck.

From what i've read on here it sounds like it's probably the soundcard, but i've never had any trouble before now...and all i've got on it is a drum track exported from beatcraft/fruity loops..

thanks for the feedback, guys..

I don't know what's causing your problem, but my experience, after 5 years with Cool Edit SE, Cool Edit Pro 1.2, 2.0, 2.1, and Adobe Audition 1.0 and 1.5, is that there are a number of arcane settings that trip you up in various ways. I have chided Adobe in the past for not addressing this issue, but I guess with a complex program you run into complex setup difficulties. I know that I have run into baffling problems that turned out to the wrong box ticked in the Settings screen or something similar.

Which probably isn't terribly helpful. So go through the settings, with the help of the manual (or a book based on AA) and see if you can find a solution. The complexity of computer recording is such that problems have not always been duplicated by other users. You can also post a query at http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/w...HJ.0@.1de98f7a
and perhaps find an answer.
