Recording Issue
For some reason when I'm recording vocals through my Pre Sonus Firepod, I can hear the music via the headphones that are plugged into the presonus, but can't hear the vocals over the top of the music! Seems like a simple issue, but I cant get vocals over the top of the beat at the same time. Help, anyone?

Look for something on the presonus unit, or in it's software (not cubase) mixer that will allow you to enable "direct monitoring." You might have to check the manual to find out exactly how to do this.

You can monitor through Cubase too, by clicking the little speaker icon next to the fader for the track you recording on, but it is best to monitor through the Presonus software, because there will be less latency.

You want to use the mixer knob (to the left of the phones jack). This will adjust the output balance between inputs 1-8 and the playback. The more to the left the knob is, you'll hear more of what you're trying to record - the more to the right the knob is, the more you'll hear of what is already tracked/recorded.
For vocals, I use this method because even 4 ms of latency will give you an undesirable effect when trying to track vocals. |
