Its the equivilant to beating you head with a hammer.
It does compress yes. But not in a musical way. The character it adds to the signal is quite unpleasureable IMO. The only way to find this out for yourself is to buy a different compressor and A/B the two. Try a DBX 166 or 160, or a RNC. Youll know what i mean then. -Finster |

I've used them and i quite liked them on some basses.
The crap ones that have a crap sound. So use the 3630, and it gives it a tone. Not a nice one, but better than the one it had before

Fyi -
I know these things have been trashed on this site more times than just about any other piece of gear that is with the exception of anything Behringer.
There is however an article in the Jan/Feb issue of Tape Op that details a simple modification that, at least according to the article, seems to make a big difference |

Actually "vintage 3630" -- that's a really funny concept.... kind of like aluminum xmas trees can be considered "vintage"................ so can an Edsel....

I used to own one back in the 90's (my first compressor), and sold it in 2000 for about $50. I kinda feel bad for the guy that bought it ![]() Drake: I put another vote in for the RNC. You'd just have to hear the difference and I know you'd be impressed. |
