Has anyone tried using an 8 buss mixer with md8? The unbalanced ins bother me, and i would like to have more channels. Does this sound like overkill for a md8? Would like to have a tube preamp also, but that would not help the number of channels.I'm thinking like 16 x 8 mackie. I'm also wondering if say a mackie mic pre is going to sound any better than the md8 pre's.

We're thinking of doing the same thing. We've decided to ditch the mono P.A. we use for gigs and get a good power amp and a 16 or 20 track mixer. We'll run one bus into the MD8 (with a drum group, etc.), but haven't actually done this yet. Will you let us know how your experience turns out?

Oh, yeah. The preamps on the new Mackies are great, they run about -92 dB full gain. The MD-8 is SUPPOSED to run about -66 dB full gain, although I've had mine run at -30 dB on both ch. 2 and 3 before (got it fixed). I'm not sure what the older Mackie preamps ran.

I use a Mackie 1402 with my Sony MDMX4II. for tracking, the pre's are cleaner, and for mixing, the same.
