Problems using Sonar internal midi clock to play external drum machine?

Okay, I’m no midi expert, but I’m trying to connect my external drum machine to play in sync with the sonar internal midi clock via a Midisport 2x2 usb. I thought that it would be as simple as:

1. Setting the Sonar sequencer clock to internal. Setting the tempo to about 120
2. Setting my Boss drum machine from internal to midi (only other option)
3. Connecting my midi cable from the “in” of my drum machine/ to the “out-A” of my Midisport. (The same way I would connect my syth to control my drum machine.
4. There is a switch on my Midisport usb that gives me the option for usb or midi. I tried both only because I’m playing guessing games at this point.

Am I missing some other internal settings? How would you go about doing this exactly using Sonar 2?

You didn't tell us in what way it is not working for you, but I *suspect* that your drum machine just doesn't start. If that's the case, then, under
Options->Project->Sync, enable Transmit MIDI Start/ContinueStop.
