Can I import 96/24 wavs if my SC is only 44/16?

I think I've done this in the past, but now CW is not letting me change the rate and bit depth under the audio options. Was I dreaming or did I do it?

Everytime I try to change it to 96/24 it says that the default audio format is not compatible with my sound card. How can I import 96/24 wavs then...?
