newbie here.

hey guys, another newbie here.

i posted in another section and got eatin up pretty good so ill try again. if you had $3000 US to make a home studio what kind of stuff would you be looking for (links would be great) assuming that you have a computer, instruments etc.

i was also looking into the digitech gnx3/gnx4 workstations and was wondering if you guys think this is good value compared to buying everything seperatly or not.

thanks guys.

Are you asking what types of equipment you'll need? Or do you know that and just want recommendations on which brands and products in each equipment type? Do you have anything besides the computer and instruments? A lot of startup stuff like mic stands and cables will nickel and dime your budget straight to hell.
Here's what I use...
Interface
002R w/ Protools LE $1200

Mics
Groove Tubes GT66 $500
MXL 603s matched pair $200
Audix Fusion 5pc drum mic kit $300
Oktavia MK319

Preamp
M-Audio Octane

Control Surface/MIDI controllers
Edirol PCR50 $200
CM labs Motor Mix $400

Monitors
Behringer Truth (probably a better choice out there) $350 pr

Acoustic Treatments, Mic Cables, Mic Stands, Rack Cases, misc stuff $400-500

That's a little over $3000, but you could live without the control surface and use less mics to start.

What sort of music will you be wanting to record, what instruments? How many tracks will you be wanting to record simultaneously?

...

im looking to do progressive metal so basically ill want 4 or 5 tracks of guitars, 1 or 2 tracks of bass and 2 or 3 tracks of vocals. it is just going to be a little demo for fun so im thinking ill just make some crazy blast beats with a shareware program or drum machine.

long term id like to learn some of the basics and maybe progress further but for now it is just for fun.

thanks for your help guys.
