Never realized how noisy MR8s' pre were!

So I haul my MR8/GT2 and guitar upstairs the other day, because I don't like taking my 4 year old son down there, because I do nothing but chase him.

I recorded new guitar parts for an old annoying/boring song I've been trying to spice up. There is a repetitive body to the song... 4 minutes... 9 chords.... anyway.. you get the picture. The outro is much shorter... I digress, this is not my point.

So basically 3 guitars piled on top of each other (hard L/R/center that is), sounds okay on cans, THEN I HEAR IT ON MY MONITORS!!! HIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

SOUNDS LIKE SHIT ON TOAST!!!

I could not believe it!
I wonder if there is something else going on here... I've only had the GT2 for a week, but the one recording (two guitars) I made with my dmp3 ahead of the MR8 did not have this hiss..

I never really had a noise problem with them, maybe if they're boosted a lot, but I never really did that. GT2? Is that a synth? Are you going direct or mic'ing an amp? I think you're saying DI b/c you were using dmp3 prior, did you try gt2 to dmp3 to mr8? Maybe it's all inthe amount of gain since you said you didin't have prob w/ dmp3?

Tech 21 GT2 Sansamp recording direct to my VF-16

I use my Tech 21 GT2 Sansamp recording direct to my VF-16...I've been able to get some great sounding guitar tracks.

I think you're just going to have to play with adjusting the gain on the mic pre's and the "Level" dial on your GT2. I know that if I start cranking the mic pre's on my VF-16 from "line" level to anywhere past 12 noon on the dial, it get's noisy as hell. Try keeping the mic pre's around 9 pm, and using the "Level" knob on your GT2 to boost the recording level to what you desire. Personally, I don't push the recording levels that high - usually right in the middle. There's nothing worse than the digital distortion that occurs when you recording levels get too hot.

HTH,

ray
