decent TRS snakes?
I am running 4 8-channel TRS snakes between my mixer and patchbay, and other equipment. I am using el cheapo $15 snakes. which crapped out today. gotta love it. the next best thing I can locate costs $180 per snake. so, about $750 for 4. er...
is there another product? |

Hosa (No, I'm not kidding. They are cheap, but will work fine in low-abuse situations)
EWI- find 'em at Audiopile or e-bay E-bay- tons of snakes. Go to musical instruments, search the term snake. There will probably be 400 items. Peavey |

I have had many a Hosa snake just die on me sitting in a rack. Some of which were only plugged in once. I highly reccomend avoiding plastic molded stuff on cheap wire. If you want a quote on some cables, send me a PM.

Yeah, Hosa and similar stuff is "okay" for very short runs that aren't moved, kicked, stepped on, pulled or torqued. But for whatever reason, things like cheap snakes work great until you are a) with a client b) about to miss a deadline c) doing something majorly important.
If you can solder, you can always buy canare or mogami low impedance cable, solder up your own snakes. |

well, if the sound quality is no different, I can go through 10 cheapie snakes and it will still be cheaper than a good one. I could just have a few extras around. i think this is the way to go.... it just blows my mind that there isn't really anything in between. you must be paying for the lifetime warranty.

connect your board to your patchbay to your recorder or other interfaces. which all use multiple channels (8,16) so you put 1 "snake" instead of 16 cables. keep your studio more organized.
thanks for the links. |
