building a vocal booth in my spare room
i want to build a 5'x5' vocal booth in my spare room. it needs to prevent sound from getting out as well as getting in, as i live in an apartment complex. i'm not very good with carpentry, so explicit details would be greatly appreciated.

You are very likely to be unable to get 'soundproof' with any degree of construction that a landlord would agree to. In all honesty you are most likely better off with something like a Whisperoom (one of several brands) or a DIY version of something like them. Since, as you say, you are not good with carpentry you might be best spending more for the premade kits.

I've put 2 1meter square panels of thick sound absorbtion foam on stands and put them in the corner (rested against the wall with hooks on the top to attach to picture hooks - just to stop them falling forwards). Get the singer to stand in the corner singing out... to reduce the room sound further hang a duvet at the far end.
My room sounds remarkably tight and not boxy at all... it's 5'x7' |
