I have a pretty small room 15x10... I'm not too worried about the noise level... I could turn it off and on while recording. & During band practice and jams it could just be On. The guy says it's like a loud fan.

I'm questioning the amount of moisture it puts in the room. It says it is also a humidifier. Any idea if this would be too much moisture for music gear and electronics? Other wise I think it would save me from my 90*- 95* room through the summer.

I could pick this up for about $150 used.

I would be surprised if you got very much cooling effect from a non "freon" system like that but I'm not familiar with it. I guess you don't have a window you could just mount a room air conditioner in??? Bodies and equipment would contribute a lot to temperature in a room that small so you need a way to remove the heat (like an air conditioner).

That is an evaporative cooler. It cools by blowind air over a moist mesh, adding humidity to the room. Whether they will help depends on how dry your existing air is. If it is hot and humid there, like in the Southeast, then you aren't going to get any evaporation and thus little cooler. If you are in a hot and dry climate like the Southwest then it can make a difference.

You might instead look into one of the freestanding vented units, like from Suppentown. Like your idea you can turn them on between tracking. On the other hand they are vented, so you will need a window vent, and because they blow air out you will need to think how the air is replaced while they are running, like opening the door too.

i would think any extra moisture in your studio is a bad idea, especially combined with a bunch of guys jamming.

My friend in Arizona called that a swamp cooler (they had much bigger units).
I imagine it will feel like a swamp in there.

definately go with something with a vent, if you dont have a window just knock a hole in the wall- unless its a rental (there goes the security deposit)

or do what i do and sweat it out.... it probably gets 100 plus during a good practice here

Thats what they have in one end of a Green house. You can also get some about 5' tall for commercial use.

The vented AC is what I have wanted to get (free standing unit, no window)... it seems like the first heat wave comes and then by the time I get around to actually getting something, the end of summer is near and I think... Hmmm, maybe next year.

I have a room inside a room. Built a box in my garage... In the beginning just for Band practice... now it's more of my Studio, but still have jams here and there.

So I'm going to put a little exhaust in the ceiling to let out some Hot air... & I've been thinking of trying this... Piping in air from my Basement ( I could do this rather easily, only having to pull the air about 15' to 20') the air down there is never over 70* and I think it might help at least a bit. It wouldn't cost much to try and if it doesn't work I could then try the free standing AC.

The Humidity of that QuietCool would just be too much, ya think? Other than that I think it would work, or help.

i fixed the air conditioner in the studio today and boy was it worth it.

its a swamp cooler on top of the room. The noise stays out there and then its just vented through one hole in the roof. I could probably make it even more sound proof by doing an isolation box around it.

anyway it works great.
