could i plug my mr8 into the vf16s digital input?

you think this would work or no? i'd try it right now but the vf16 is still on its way. really i'm trying to decide if i want to get rid of the mr8 or keep it around for portable purposes and maybe recording scratch guitar/bass tracks

Why would you want to do that? Plug it in, I mean... As far as keeping the MR-8, I'd say that for what you intend to do with it, you can't go wrong. Just the fact that it runs on batteries and can go pretty much anywhere you want is a plus.

No. You can't. But- you *can* simply plug the stereo line out of the MR-8 into the line ins patched to 2 tracks, and transfer the audio in analog, in real time. I do it all the time with my PXR4 and a VS1824CD or Digi002.-Richie

well i'll be using all the inputs on other things.. i was just hoping i could basically use the mr8 as a digital mixer
i'll probably be ebaying the mr8 and putting the money towards other things i need much more. i haven't gotten a new memory card so at the most i could only get 24 minutes of "on location" stuff anyway. worthless.

Yes you can...

I have both and have done it numerous times.

The signal coming out of the lightpipe output is your mixed down stereo signal from your MR8... So whatever mixdown you do with the sliders will be recorded to your Master unit, in this case your VF16.

In your setup on the VF16, you can set your lightpipe input to be any 2 of the 16 channels you want to use... (or even mix to mono if you choose). There's a 'Digital In' in the setup menu and you set Left and Right channels there.

If you're not familiar with Midi MTC, start reading up on it before your VF16 arrives and add it to your toolbox as well...

I can synch both machines up via MTC, record a few tracks that I've recorded onto my VF16 into the analog inputs of the MR8, Take the MR8 onsite to a grand piano in an auditorium, or to a friend's house etc and let him record along to the tracks from the VF16....

When finished, Synch up the two decks again, attach the Toslink cable and mix my onsite tracks back into the VF16 without worrying about having to adjust anything...

Works pretty slick...

edit: As a bonafied live 'digital mixer'... no... You can only transfer your 16 bit 'Normal' recorded tracks.
