new idea for bass traps?

my question to you is, does this idea have any validity???

let me explain, i was thinking about how expensive bass traps can be and this idea came to me, it makes sense in my head but i'm not sure what that means in the real world.

it's very simple really, don't laugh, 4 inches thick of tissue paper, bound at the corners. not the kind you blow your nose on but the kind you can wrap stuff in.

if it's bound only at the corners (or even allong the sides) the many, many layers (i haven't done the math to figure out how many layers are in 4", but it's a lot) would all flex a very small distance in between each other, and in also the thing as a hole would have some movement and be very heavy.

mount it off the wall as normal and.....

well, do you think it's any good. i could build some, but i haven't the first clue how to accurately test them.
and remember, if it's a good idea you heard it from me, if not lets pretend this never happened

Well, I would guess that that much tissue paper would be even more expensive anyway. It would seem like an exercise in futility. But then again, I have no idea how much tissue paper costs. haha

In theory....you might be onto something, a few hundred layers of tissue hanging on the wall would surely absorb something. I have no idea of how big those sheets come in so you might run into a problem attaching them together (I assume you not only want a 4 inch thickness but at least a 2ft X4ft coverage area or bigger) Here is an idea of mine which should be easier and a lot cheaper. build a frame out of 1 X 4s,depending on size you will need internal braceing. Cover the back with nylon mesh (screne wire) then fill the inside with celulose insulation (the stuff that looks like ground up paper because that's what it is) it's a good idea to wear a dust mask when working with this stuff. Then cover the front with more nylon mesh. Cover the whole thing with burlap or use a cheap blanket to match your decor. Hang it on your wall and it should work as well or better than your tissue design. If I did the math right it should cost about $40 to build one of these 4'X8'X4" and its all available at Lowes.
I've got the tools, if you want to round up materals, we could make a few of these some Saturday (i could use a couple myself)

just a rough guess in my head you aren't going to find it cheaper than a DIY trap of four inches of 703
