Buying my first pair of monitors

I`ve been recording for a while, but I`ve always have done my mixes with cans.

So long overdue I thought I should take the step up and buy my self a pair of monitors.

after looking on several brands and types, I think I want to go for an active pair.

but I havent decided yet.

My budget has its limits, due to expensive shipping and 25% tax on items bought abroad, wich I`m most likely to do.

so something in the region of 300$, would be nice.

I`ve also been thinking about getting something really cheap like the ESi nEAR 05`s, and save up some more cash and buy something really fancy on a later occasion.

any comments anyone?

I picked up a pair of Event PS6 on eBay for about $275 with shipping. I really like them.

M Audio does a Studiophile series that falls right in that range, KRK's "Rockits" are there. My Alesis' were about 350. Nothing to write home about, but suitable for my low cost needs.

How about a pair of Behringer Truths..? Probably one of the few good products they have made.. cheap too, with a good bottom to my ears.
