New Tascam X48 recorder (48 tracks!)

What do you guys thing about this new stand alone from Tascam?

# 48-track digital recording at up to 96kHz/24-bit
# 24-track recording at 192kHz/24-bit

Man you can use the Tascam US2400 as the fader/controler. This thing is sweet and its only $3999.00.

Question Only $3999?????

I made a post about this previously in General Discussion, but perhaps in the Tascam forums would have been a better place.

Anyways, my point is this....

Is this machine not just a glorified computer with the software already installed? Would it not make at least as much sense to build a PC and get say...Cubase SX3?

I will find a link to my previous post and post it here.

link added...

I looked at this myself....Anyone can easily build a much cheaper pc daw that can do 48x 24/96.

good pc goes for around $800 (a64, 1gb ram, 120gb 7200rpm hd)
good solid sound card $300-$800
Farm DSP card $500-$1200
19inch lcd monitor ($200)
DAW software ($200-$800)
