In using a Tascam MS-16 (1" format) would a better overall sound result from using a noise reduction unit. If so, is one available for this unit? What can I expect to spend (new or used)? Where would be a good place to buy?
Thanks for any help.

Arrow DBX

As far as I know,Tascam made DBX licensed units for all their open reel recorders.I used to have a Teac 3440 4 track, and when I got the DBX for it,it really helped the noise floor. But,there is a trade off in that any anomalies in the frequency response of the recorder are doubled after going through the DBX because of how it works.Don't know the name of the specific unit for your recorder but you can email Tascam and they might be able to help you out. You're almost certainly gonna have to buy it used,so you could check ebay or digibid for starters.
