Headphone Amp With Mic Input
Hey I'm building a small studio using the whole cubase / firepod setup. In terms of talkback I don't want to lose a channel off of my firepod for this. Does anyone know of a headphone amp that caters for this. Say 4 headphoe outs and one mic preamp in so I can communicate with the drummer from my control room?
Thanks |

I believe the Presonus HP4 Discrete 4-Channel Headphone Amp allows for this..

there is a behringer 8-input headphone amp out there that does this for about 90 bucks...look around you'll find it. I saw it at guitar center

The Behringer headphone amps have XLR inputs but they're not intended for plugging a microphone in. You'd probably need some sort of Control Room matrix, like the Samson C-Control or Presonus Central Station.

The ART HPFX has 2 MIC inputs (which are usually passed through to your DAW) and 4 headphone outs. It could be used for what you are describing. It's a discontinued model, but there are still plenty out there I'm sure.

I just take a cheap preamp (Audio buddy, or even my Korg PXR4 Pandora) and plug the line in to an aux input on the headphone amp (in this case Rolls RA62HA) That way you get talkback without using a recording channel, and you get no bleed onto any recording channel. If your HP amp has an aux in, any preamp and a cheap dynamic will work.-Richie

my setup looks like this: 8 outputs from my adat interface into 8 line inputs on a small behringer mixer, so i can listen to any of the outputs at will... then i have a cheap dynamic running into one of the mic channels, then the main outputs going via snake to a behringer headphone amp in my other room. it seems to work fine for me and people that come in to jam/recording.

headphone amp
i'm doing ok with a samson 5 headphone amp - has 3 inserts for a little flexibility. i've had a little bit of grounding hum (when i touch it) but i just think it's my fault the way everything is crammed in a small space - has not affected recording -loco
