Bizarre Yamaha AW16G Problem

It's odd but despite everthing possible being panned dead centre, my AW16G seems to be outputting EVERYTHING with a noticiable bias to the left channel.

Any ideas why? (this problem seems to have developed recently)

Duff right output from AW16G? Duff cable going to the right speaker? Duff right speaker? Duff right ear? (stranger things have happened ).

Indeed, but the problem seems entirely internal as you can clearly see the discrepancy between channels on the level meters

There is a row of 5 knobs immediately over the ch 15/16 fader, and the bottom one is for pan/balance.

What probably happened is you pushed the master fader button, then brushed/twisted/cranked this bottom knob to the left. Selecting the master fader by pressing the button and turning the light @ the top of the fader orange, then twisting the knob back to C should solve the problem.

Another possibility (without knowing this particular mixer) is trims. Most mixers have them, usually right above the jack where you plug in the cable. These can be used to micro-adjust the levels of input signals to calibrate the 0 VU point for each input. Tweak as needed.

Aw16g

Hey Guys, thanks for the replies.

Everything is defintely panned centre. Input levels are normal. It's only with output & monitoring levels that this problem occurs. Can a machine of this type develop a physical fault that would cause this to happen?

Richard,

I own an AW16G also. I tried to replicate your situation by calling up a song in which I used all 16 tracks. I set all the pannings to center and when I monitored the stereo buss the overall L & R levels were fairly uniform showing an occasional boost toward one side or the other. If that is what you are witnessing I wouldn't be overly concerned with it.

You say that you see a noticeable bias to the left channel. How much greater is it compared to the right channel and is it constant?

If it is constant then there's a chance that your machine needs some sort of calibration. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't have a trouble shooting section.

I'd be interested to read anything further you discover.
