Anyone know if the sennheiser HD497 headphones are good for monitoring?

I really got to have a hot key that prints this answer, I have to go to it so many times...
You can use *anything* as a mix monitor, but for it to work correctly, you have to be able to satisfy one - and only one - condition: You have to get/be familiar with how your monitor colors the sound in all three audio dimensions (pan, spectrum and depth) and know how to mix properly to adjust for it. Put another way, you have to know how it sounds in relation to the "real world". If you know that your mix has to sound like X in your monitor of choice in order for it to sound like Y on it's intended typical playback system, then create you mix to sound that way on your monitors even if it doesn't sound right/doesn't sound like Y. That said, it can be much harder to do that in phones than with external monitors. G. |
