USB Pre-Amp For Mic Hookup?

I'm interested in, at this point, extremely basic recording. I have a Shure mic and was wondering how I can get my vocals from the mic to my computer. Let me also point out before I go further that I am a BROKE college student so...yea lol But anyway, I was told that for my basic needd all I need is a basic USB Pre-Amp. Agree? Disagree? Any recommendations?

I cant say i know of any USB pre amps, but if your looking for something like that, why not just get a USB soundcard with built in pre amps? or, even better, if your computer has firewire, try and get a firewire unit. Do you have a soundcard at the moment?

USB: http://www.dv247.com/invt/22462 << There you have 2 built in pre amps.
Firewire: http://www.dv247.com/invt/6454 < A little more, but much better!

Basically, your going to need to spend some cash im afraid, but before you forget about the idea and go back to watching day time tv, just have a think about it. Im a student too y'know, and i got a part time job to pay for all this equipment i was needing. Without sounding too much like your parents, get out there and get a job! Even if it is only for a few months to get some cash for a soundcard, trust me, youll love it once you have that nice shiney package being delivered to your door!
