Would like to hear from anyone who has and is using this product with any one of the Roland multitrackers.

I'm probably the last person in the world to resist going to some sort of computer-based midi software, but I am pretty much resigned to it now. Tis the way of the world. Bye bye spontaneity.

What connections do you need on your computer? Midi in and out? Audio in?

Can I sequence with the software on my Yamaha EX-5 synth or will it only connect to a Roland VS unit?

Does it actually work effectively with the Roland 880EX and/or 1680?

I have the program and have used it when I've felt inspired in the past. It makes it a lot easier to do most of the stuff you would normally do with all the buttons and slides, etc. It makes it more like Cakewalk or some other PC based program. Like if you want to move a track, just slide it to where you want it with your mouse. You just hook it up to the midi part of your PC, which also allows you to synch to a recording program you may have in the PC, so you not only get to edit and operate the VS through the PC, but you also add tracks to the PC program. There are track views and a console view with all the sliders and effects and buttons, etc. The VSPro Toolbox cost me $150 about a year ago. Maybe it's less now.

I just ordered the upgrade (free) for my Pro Toolbox, and it looks like they have a demo of some stuff on their site. Check it out.

Cool Datasonics

I have been using Datasonics software on a notebook PC for 18 months with a VS-Expanded 880 and a MOTU PC-MIDI Flyer hooked up to the VS-800 and a synth. The software is very, very good for:

(a) controlling effects (and all patches are saved on the PC disk);
(b) controlling at the same time (14 channels) the 8 track and 6 input channels as well as MIDI channels for external sequencers. Most people don't know how to do this effectively and the software makes it a breeze;
(c) setting up scenes; and
(d) cutting and pasting audio etc.

all with full MIDI functionality.

They also answer questions and respond to problems etc. quickly via e-mail and what's more they are Australian (as am I).

I called them and they (Tony Whichello) spent an hour on the phone helping me resolve some problems. Very nice people. Throw another shrimp on the barbie.

Question

Anyone know if any of this software will work on a new DV+ imac? There's no midi port as far as I can tell. It has firewire, and usb connections. Would I need an adapter?

By the way, I'm still using the 880 V-xpanded. Does this rule everything out?

I've since bought the VS 1680. It's easier to work with than the 880-EX so the need for software like Datasonic is less urgent. I'm going to wait for awhile and wait til my needs get more complicated. No probs buying Austrailian.
Also I bought the midi adapter for my soundcard and found that it didn't work for synths or anything else. And yes I was careful to hook it up correctly. I either need a different soundcard or a different driver.

Datasonics question???

How does VSPro connect to the VS-Workstation? And will it by any chance work with a BR-8?
