My new old Sennheiser mic - with clips!
I traded an Audio Technica 36r pro for an old Sennheiser MD21 a couple of weeks ago. It is an old dynamic omni mic, used mostly by reporters back in the day. It look like a 421 but without the iron bar accross the middle of the grill. I bought it mainly because my SM57 wasn't giving me the guitar sound I was looking for.
I tried it extensively on my Line 6 Spider II 30 amp together with the SM57 and the sound is much, MUCH better. The mic is not nearly as bright as the SM57, which is a good thing. I've found that if I stick the Sennheiser right infront of the middle of the cone, and the 57 a bit more towards the edge, I get a a great sound when mixed together. So, I just wanted to share my experiences with this mic to everyone hear. I got it just to have a weird mic that'll give me a different sound from the standard SM57, and it does just that! Here's a zip with 2 files:
http://members.home.nl/vangeelen/mixes/guitarmicing.zip It's the same clip, once with just an SM57 pointing straight forward but slightly off-center at the speaker. The other clip has the MD21 in it aswell. I was going for somewhat of Linkin Park sound (I know, very un-origional, but I just wanted to see if I could get near it). |
