AT 4047/SV versus AT4047B

Full Compass has a deal on the AT 4047B mic for $409. They sell the AT 4047/SV for a little more.

Both mics come with shock mounts and cases, so I'm trying to figure out what the difference between the two models is. At first I thought it was the color of the mic body, but it lloks like they both come in a silver finish.

Well...if anybody cares...

It looks like they are B-stock, meaning they've been out to trade shows, demos, etc, then were returned to the factory for a health check, then back out to dealers to be sold as new.

I bought a B in March. The B stands for bulk, not b stock. They're shipped out from AT with no fancy box, just the mic itself. Then the retailer buys the other components such as the case, shock mount, or whatever, and sells it as a package. In the case with Full Compass, you get everything that comes with the 4047SV (including a brand new mic) except for the pretty cardboard box that AT ships the SV in, and the paperwork (witch AT will send on request). Rather then take my word, you could do what I did, and call AT. The irony is that the B version actually came from Full Compass with more than the SV, as it also included the mic clip!!

You are correct sir.

I wrote Audio Techinca and they confirmed everything you said. When I called Full Compass, no one there could tell me anything.

I ordered 2 of the mics today. Supposedly it comes with clip, shock mount, cover, and protective case.

What a deal!

i would see if the cheaper version comes with the shock mount. otherwise it wont be such a great deal because it will be another 30$ to 50$ to get the mount. i dont think the mic clip is the same thing.

The mic clip was in addition to the shockmount. Any seller should list what comes with the purchase. In my case, it was a seller on ebay that tainted my piece of mind by advertising their B version as "factory sealed". When I got my mic from Full compass it was not factory sealed, but as I said in my first reply, the package was assembled by FC and "sealed" with a rubber band. Made me think I had a "send back" or something. After a few phone calls and questions in these great forums, I found that the ebay sellers idea of "factory sealed" was, you guessed it, a rubber band! I feel that it's false advertising to claim it's factory sealed, as it was the seller who packed the mic and installed the rubber band himself, and he aint no factory! Hell, if that's the case, I factory seal it myself every time I install the rubber band! Full Compass is not allowed to sell used things as new (of course, anything is possible). Any legitimate 4047b is covered by AT's warranty as long as you get a receipt. Great mic by the way!!

I'd get one too, but I just spent that same $ on computer upgrades (sigh... ) Oh well, at least I have a screamin' machine now!

They were used on the Grammys, etc. Truth be known, AT has as much money tied up in hardware and packaging as they do the mic.
