Red face Mics

I have a Marshall Electronics MXL V57M Studio Cond (with shockmount) (new).

I am a storyteller and all my work has music tracks in the background. My voice is very soft and quiet - loses it's quality if I have to 'push it'.

I need to get a second mic - is this one ok or is there another one (reasonable) for a voice like mine? It seems to me that the shockmount is important (?) also - for a second one?

What do you need the second mic for?

Gotcha. If you're happy with the one you have and it's in your budget, go ahead and grab another. If you want something different but still in the budget LDC category; the CAD M179 gets decent reviews (I don't have one so can't say for sure) or the Studio Projects B-series stuff (I have a B3 that I like) are decent choices. You could also go with a dynamic. Shure Beta 58 is a good choice there.

If you want to go the save way, get another mic that you already have one of. You could also go for a totally different sound and get something like a good dynamic mic (look a electrovoice or beyer dynamic mics) or a Kel Audio mic.

Do you have an idea of the $range on the Shure Beta?
Do you know if this is something that Zzounds would carry?
