USB and FW to multi-track at once?

I have a edirol UA-20 and I'm looking into getting a firewire interface with at least 8 xlr inputs to record drums. My computer has both connections, but I was wondering if I will be able to record into seperate channels at the same time ( leaning towards a tascam 1804 or firepod) because I need 8 tracks for drums, but also need 1-2 track to record scratch guitar and bass tracks at the same time. Hope I made my self clear enough, thanks!

Well firepod has 10 channels there you go. I assume getting two drivers to work together would be anywhere between impossible to a pain in the ass.

I've heard if you're using a Mac with the new "Tiger" 10.4 OS, this type of mixing and recording is entirely possible...

Tiger is an excellent and robust operating system...
If you're using Panther or an earlier verison of OSX, it may be in your interested to try out Tiger and see if "multi-platform" recording will work...

TRS is tip-ring-sleeve, which is basically like a "stereo" 1/4 style jack connector. Most of the time in music gear, something with TRS in's or outs will be using it as a balanced connection - has a positive and negative version of the signal along with a ground. Same thing as a mic cable, how it has three pins.

There are other uses for a TRS connection that are unbalanced; for example, an "insert" jack, will take a TRS cable on one end, that has the send on one part of the jack and return on the other... then the other end of the cable has the two TS (tip-sleeve, like a "mono" jack) connector for both the tip and ring, one being send and the other return.
