EQing busses.
So I'm mixing some music right now and I have 4 tracks of guitar, two of each guitar, one a 57/e609, the other a d112. I'm wondering if there is any inherent problem with shipping them all to a bus and then slapping an eq on that bus and using that to eq everything. I know I can't 'personalize' each guitar, but I can use the EQ to cut the low end for the bass to peek through and bump the high end and cut the area for the kick's click sound.
The reasons I'm doing this is because my UAD card can only have so many plug ins running, so instead of having 4 instances of the EQ I could do this and only use 1. |

no.
you also could use a different eq not on that card. but there is nothing 'inherently' wrong with that at all. |

I also do something similar for brasses---all my trombones on one, trumpets on another, but in that case, it's more for keeping the relative levels between them the same while adjusting their level relative to the rest of the mix.... Ditto for drum kit. I swear, I don't know how I survived doing my first CD without any busses.... ![]()

Yes you can EQ the busses. You can also use the track EQ instead of the uad card. The EQ's might not be as cool, but they will work for general shaping.

one thing you might watch out for, especially on guitars if doing that is you won't be able to frequency overlapping. ie. if you boost 4k on one guitar and remove a bit at 4k on the other so the guitars aren't fighting over that space.
