Rode NTK?

Hey, I'm buying a vocal mic for my project studio and have about £300. I was first considering the rode nt1000 but my retailer suggested the ntk valve mic. I don't know much about valve mics but It looks good for the offered price of £300.

Any advice would bring a small smile.

Cheers

The NTK is a nice mic. Only downside is a tendency it has to be a little bit sibbilant. Spitfish or any other good de-essor will clean that up if it proves to be a problem on a particular vocalist. If you get it, make sure to give it a good half an hour to warm up.

I second that.... expecially the warm up time!

I have the NTK and the NT1000. I like them both. The NTK is a little Phatter sounding but the NT1000 is very clean sounding and dead quiet. If you can get the NTK for $300 I'd grab it.

Blessings, Terry

I find NTK. It's a versatile, useful mic. A little bright, it has less color than a lot of tube mics. It's good on acoustic guitar and a lot of vocals.-Richie

I have one and I love it. Plus, my experience with their customer support here in the States has been nothing short of outstanding.

Sibilance is greatly reduced by technique although some vocal qualities tend to emphasize it more than others.

As it will be my main and only real vocal mic...is this the one to get?
I also have two older large diaphram joe meek condensers which i am gonna use for overheads, but i suppose if the valve mic isn't working for somebody i could try one of those.

I know that different people suit diff mics but is there one around £300 ($550) that is very versatile.

Thanks.

One of the reasons we all have so many mics is so that we can have the right mic for a variety of singers. The other reason is we have little self control and are easily convinced that we need what we see.
I have an NTK and I think it's a nice enough mic and fits for a lot of folks. Audio Technica 4050 hits your price range and is versatile.
