Definately the soundcraft M8 !!!

if u get one and get bored with it, send it over !
if i had the money i'd buy me two of those

8 channels of clean preamps,
nice eq (not super much controll in my opinion, but decent sound)

and yeah, 8 direct outs on each channel,
even a master stereo out so u can record to a 2tk !

don't think u want anyting else

mhhh...or are you looking for fully parametric stuff (= $$$$$$$) ?

I think the direct outs on most mixers are *before* the eq. So you would not be able to eq the direct out signals. At least check the manual in advance on any mixer you are serious about buying, as this would be an important issue for you. I don't know if the M8 is this way or not, just giving a heads up.

Asa far as I know, there are really not any budget 8 channel EQ's on the market. There are some high end lunchbox style stuff, but you will be looking at a lot of dough to get 8 channels. Your best solution is going to be a mixer, or maybe 8 channels of the Speck EQ's.

There is a Kawai unit that is a multiple eq unit, 8 in one box. It's called the Kawai EQ-8 and you see them from time to time on eBay.

Akai made a programmable eq called the PEQ-6. Six eq's in a single rack space box.

http://www.harmony-central.com/Effec.../PEQ_6-01.html

A bit pricier are units like the Speck 316, which is 16 three band eq's in one box. Very hard to find though. I have one and the eq is of the clean variety. Also worth noting is that the eq is not fully parametric.

Another unit to consider if you have the spare change would be something like the DBX 900 rack with multiple 905 eq modules. This setup would get a bit expensive, but the eq's are good. I've have a couple 905's.

This is a big subject. Do a google search for "parametric equalizer" and I'm sure you'll come up with plenty of reading material.

For starters, here's a link to the Rane Reference guide for pro audio (the "P" page, just scroll down to parametric):

Hey earworm, did you bid on an m8 on ebay a while back?

I call next on your m8 after him, I'm considering getting one, unless I change my mind back to a racked pair of dmp3's and going with just 4 chanels of pre for now.

yes i did bid on an m8 and an m12 and lost the items,
can't always stay up till 5 in the morning to follow those american auctions,
right now ist 3.48 in the morning cause i'm hunting...

and ok, u can switch to Post-Pre fader on the M8
but that doesn't really interest me,

can anyone say that the direct outs are AFTER EQ ?

it must be, no?

i know that most mixers (exept the 4 studiomasters i used) have PRE EQ inserts, so the eq's don't affect the compressors and stuff,
and most mixers have POST EQ auxiliaries so the eq does affect the reverbs,
but don't know the general rule for direct outs...
if u don't have busses, then how would you record in multitrack? bypass the eq's of that nice soundcraft? Mhhhhhhhhhhhhh

for me its cool, my studiomaster 16:4:2 has no direct outs which sucks,
so i have an insert cable on each channel, going to a compressor,
and the compressor out goes to the multitrack in

this way i got EQ and compression, but a little bit ....in a weird way,
in a discussion a guy told me this is more like a ""mastering" kind of thing,
but thats just what he said...

whats up with that M8-question? selling one?
i'm on it then.. !

I saw one a while back, cuz I've been looking at em, and earworm something was the high bidder for a while, and I was pretty sure it had to be you.

I should have the money to get one next time some come around. There were a bunch back when I was first looking, but I'd just spend all my money on an interface.
