tascam 38 head cover!
Eagerly awaiting delivery of a tascam 38 and seller tells me that the head cover (with the name 'tascam 38' on it) keeps springing off!! Is this fixable, do I need a new part? I think the guy I bought it from has just fitted a new pinch roller, taken the machine apart and maybe can't get the head cover back on properly.
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!! |

There's not much in the way of fixing that can be done, if it's damaged.

I don't see how it can keep springing off if it's screwed on properly, it's just two screws and really easy to attach.
I have another question (forgive me for hijacking) On my Tascam 38, the Right reel table hub seem to have loosened up and went in like 2mm into the machine so the reel scratches against the machine and it wont run. Now, I can pull it out again and the machine will run for a few minutes, then it pops in again and the machine stops. Anyone have experience with this? |

Maby I'll see/reach it from behind? It's not the table but the hub itself that's loose I think. |

You wil have to take the face off of your machine to fix this. there are two phillips screws under the reel table that need to be tightened.
Just take your time and make sure the table is at the correct level before you put the face back on. When taking the front panel off there is a bushing that screws down under the pitch control knob that is easy to miss that has to come off before the front cover will come off. I think I used a long pair of needle nose pliers to get to mine. Or maybe if its not to tight a screwdriver will work. Also be careful when lifting the top face off cause the wires are pretty short on the control buttons. If you place the face plate just right you wont have to disconnect it to work on the machine. Also be careful with the little metal flap that protects the heads in the center it can get in the way while taking it aprart and putting it back together. Its not hard these are just things I had to learn while doing mine that can save you some time. Good luck with your machine. |

Okay, back to the head cover.
It's a 2-piece unit. The part that attaches to the faceplate is set by two screws, but the part with the name on it is a hinged piece of plastic, that hinges off the other piece. It's only a little plastic clip, with a metal clip backing for spring tension. If it's damaged or missing, (in this clip area) you have to replace the whole enchilada. Okay?
