How to emphasize on Vocals

Vocals sound good but too low in the mix.

How can I make the vocals stand out? Is there a range of EQ's that I should play with to make it stand out? How (using Cubase SX 2.2)

Everyone is always asking for an answer in EQ, while most of the time, that should be left alone. In my opinion, EQ is for 2 things:
- small tweaking of a signal
- cutting of troublesome frequencies
Either way, your signal should be pretty fine from the start. So, to answer your question: there is no answer in EQ that will always work.

Just turning up the fader is the only way to go if you want to do some on the vocals. You could also find out what's keeping the vocals from coming through (other instruments clogging it's space?) and do something about that.

Compression is what you need here. I had the exact same problem. The compressor plug ins usually have a 'vocal' preset, use that as a starting point and go from there untill you have a suitable sound for the track.

I say this in the sprit of the use of dynamics control for what it does, but not in the place of your other mixing tools.
Compression may be helpful in that it does even things out if inconsistent volume is in fact the problem. However it is also going to alter other aspects in some important ways and may or may not play well to the end you are going for. In that case, another option is to ride the track volume (automation is a way cool way to nail this) so the larger issues are in control and the 'compressor's load is greatly reduced.. I.e.; a much more natural sound (if that's where you're going..
