Question Tascam vs. Fostex.....help me decide?

Obviously I am looking for something very inexpensive. I cannot for the life of me decide between the Tascam Porta 02 ($149 at http://www.musiciansfriend.com) and the Fostex X-14 ($129 at same site.) Have been unable to locate user reviews on either model. Any feedback pos or neg about either would be greatly appreciated!!!! Leaning a little toward the Tascam right now, but.....

hager@iserv.net

Thanks!

Go for the Tascam. I went to a local music store and checked out the Fostex digital recorders, and their construction is amazingly cheap. Besides that, Fostex just doesn't have the reputation that Tascam has. Personally I would recommend a used 424, 424mkII, or a 488, because you get more bang for your buck. But anyway...

Talking Very happy with my portastudio 414

Go for the TASCAM, too.

I am very happy with my Tascam 414, great cassette quality, good punch in/out, and I know the porta02 can do it well too.
I recomend you spend some more and go for the four channels of the 414.

I've torn into the workings of either brand and observed the design and construction. I would go with Tascam.

Talking I've decided....NIETHER!

Sitting here day in and day out, I never even considered turning my state-of-the-art computer system into a digital multitracking system. Until I downloaded N-Track from FASOFT, that is. No clunky cassette-based system for me. For $39, I now have a flexible, speedy digital multitracker! Thanks for the advice everyone, if I ever go "cassette" (why?!) I'll choose the Tascam over the Fostex. Gotta go convert my first two songs into MP3's now....

Red face El Barto El Stupido

Hope at least a few of your 195 posts here were at least partially intelligent, but I doubt it. Must be in desperate need of something to do.

My brother bought the Fostex X-14 a while ago, Recently I bought a Tascam Porta 02, in my unexperienced opinion go with the Tascam, It has better sound, Easier to control and record, and better sound control (the Fostex was always too quiet and muffled). But then again that's just my opinion.

The Fostex is a toy compared to the Tascam.

My buddy's band recorded an entire album on a Porta 02, you can listen to some of it here.
