squier (arghh) jagmaster vs cyclone (help!tanx!)

hi everyone,

i have to get a "bangful" guitar for gigs and i cant break the bank...hell, i cant even shake it...i own a fender jazzmaster and an epi sheraton II, im happy with the sounds, but i dont want to gig with them at this point..

my setup is as follows:

rat vintage --->EH memory man------>fender hotrod deluxe

my sound ranges from red house painters to my bloody valentine for lack of better distortion description...i like that flood of ambience/wall of sound and crunchy distortion...shoegaze if u will...but i also want to be able to do decent (bell like) clean sounds..

what i wanna know is, based on experience, wich guitar should i get out of these two in order to make it work like that...wich one is better for that...the cyclone is def a lot easier on the broke walet but what the heck...

any input is brutally apreciated..

tanx!

The only input I would offer is to make sure you get one of the older Jagmasters. The newer ones have a 24" (like a Jaguar) scale, the older ones have the typical Fender 25.5" scale you're used to. It can take a bit of getting used to switching back and forth. That being said, I's go with the (older) Jagmaster. The body shape is nearly identical to your Jazzmaster, and should have a similar feel. The Cyclones are a bit more slab-like.

hey Mat,

tanx for the reply!
unfortunately i cant get any of the old jagmasters :/ and i would be kind of interested in a change really...my main focus is really sound...of course there's only so much to expect from a really crappy guitar, but you know...eventually ill replace pickups and hopefully will end up with a decent guitar...even from squier lol

btw..what do u mean by slab like?

tanx!

My impression of the Cyclones I've played is that the bodies weren't as contoured, more like a Telecaster. That Jagmasters have the body contours like a Jazzmaster or Jaguar.

oh yes,

def the design is not as pronounced...but what the heck..i have decided..im going for the blue one...tanx!

btw...finding plain simple white pickguards for a cyclone must be hell right? as in impossible....
i kind of cant stand the shinny one :/
