Strat / Single coil wiring ?'s

Hey guys, I've got a 89-90 MAJ 57 (or 59, I'm not sure) reissue strat that I'm working on for a buddy of mine. He had installed one of those pre wired pick up/ guard assemblies on it, but now wants to put it back to the factory pickups. I decided I'd do it for him as I was already setting up the guitar anyway.

Well I get the thing all wired up (I put it back to the factory wiring that I got from both Duncan's site as well as Guitar nuts.) and position 1 (Bridge only), and positon 5 (Neck only) sound real thin and at about 1/2 power. Is there a possiblity that these two pickups are wired out of phase? I've not had this problem before so I'm a little in the dark here..........has anyone had this happen to them?

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreceiated!

Rick

PS - the set up is 3 single coils, one Vol., 2 tones, and a 5-way.

guitarist is on a distinguished road
As far as I'm concerned, the phase of single coil pickups doesn't matter unless they are combined with another (i.e. the 2 and 4 positions). Other than that I have no idea. If one or all of the pickups were doing that I'd say maybe a bad connection or bad pickup, but just 2 of them... Is it known that the pickups all worked before being put in this guitar?

Not known, only assumed...

I've been calling around to some local shops here, and they seem to think that it may be a couple of bad legs on the 5-way it's self.........or possibly a shielding problem???
