Question Sweet Leaf...

I recently got a new mic, preamp and soundcard. This is a collab I did, and would appreciate some constructive criticism on it. I need some help, and would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I think you need to fix the link...

EDIT: They can get it from the box above, I fixed it there.

Thanks Rokket. Don't know why mine left the space in the link. Pretty weird. Works now.
Thanks.

I'm listening now. It's an interesting take on a classic... The guitars are a bit thin, but overall, nice playing....

One more thing, when it goes back into the main melody at about 4:20 or so, it's a bit of a rough transition...

Thanks for the input. I'll see if the guitars can be fixed. May just have to be re-recorded to fix the transition and all.

Low end sounds good here...maybe too much, actually, but it sounds big. The guitars could have some more meat in them for my taste...they sound kinda' over-gained and midscooped, but you know, Sabbath had some of the nastiest sounding guitars ever recorded, lol. They were pretty much making it up as they went.

The biggest issue I hear mixwise is the low vocal. I know what the singer is saying ONLY b/c I'm familiar with the song. Yeah, the vocal needs to pop out a bit better.

Taste issue...the solo sounds like it's got a fake roomverb on it...the tone's not bad, but it's got that POD/Amplitubey sound that lacks depth, with too much verb on it to make up for it.

Okay, the more I listen, the more I'm thinking this might be too heavy in the low mids all the way across the board. Try notching some stuff at 315Hz and see if the vocal and the guitars don't instantly become more prominent.

Be well,
Chris

Arrow The music rocks and the singing singing sucks.

The recording quality was generally good. Get a new singer, and you'd have something really great.

Thanks man. I'd love to find a new singer, but around here, noone else will even try, so I get to do it. Any suggestions on at least getting what little voice I have left any better?

Probably screwed in that department, but I will try and fix it.
Thanks,
Ed

What's up with someone giving me neg rep on this? I may suck, but someone blows. They signed it gravity.

Carlito says, that's just not cool.

Arrow Gravity is regebro, a well known kook and agitator.

Don't sweat it.

Uh, the voice? Try,... uh,... singing instead of belching. Work on range and melody,... delivery. E'thing doesn't have to be a growl.

The song's way cool, though! Production value & playing is very good!

It's amazing how hard it is to use your voice.
Thanks for the tips. I will continue working on it, but everyone here may die of old age before I improve much. Thanks for some constructive criticism though. I need it.

I was in a band (Jakob's Ladder) and we did this song we ended it with doing "Rhymin' and Stealin'". As a vocalist, doing this song was always challenging and I always made it one of the last songs in a set cuz it was so harsh on the throat. The recording doesn't sound that bad, but the vox has got to go and never return. Ever.

Well you certainly captured the 'Mechanic Grind' that Iommi and Butler were famous for... No need to comment any further on the vox, I'm guessing you've heard enough about them eh?

I missed hearing the ad-lib/cut loose tom rolls behind the guitar solo...

Us drummers key in on weird stuff eh?

Doing good stuff!

you're kidding right? I mean, surely this asinine statement is tongue in cheek.. just thought I'd ask because I didn't see an 'imho' or anything..

-------------------------------------------------------------

Dogman - very strange what you did @2:45.. I was wondering how you would handle that part because everyone who's covered this did something different there.. some nice solos in spots..

the cut @4:10 is terrible.. timing issues.. recording is a little too crisp.. singer needs to belt it more.. many issues but a good try.. keep crackin'!

nope, not kidding. I.M.H.O., some people let their biases about music interfere with what they're hearing. Fuzztones played with 3.5 fingers. Great for the time...dated. Whatever, I'm country, remember?
