Inserts and Software Capability?

Can anyone recommend DAW software so that i can put compression on my singers vocals BEFORE / During recording using external hardware. I have Nuendo (older version) and it does not allow this. My ProQ10 has the capability! We'd just like to try it and see (same with guitar effects) - Thanks loco

Nuendo 2 and 3 allow for this as well as cubase sx2 and 3. You would be better off getting an outboard compressor and compressing the vocals before it hits the converters.

I think thats what they are saying, is they want to use an external one. From what I am picturing, they are using the preamps on the aardvark card and there is no insert point. Also, I thought it was only SX and Nuendo 3 that allowed for outboard patching.

Thanks to xstatic (you are right in what we are doing and want to do) and farview (we are also considering buying Drum a Gog)
i guess we'll have to make do with the "hand me down" Nuendo that was with the ProQ10 when i purchased it used.

None of the software will do what you are asking. the opnly way I can think of to do it is to burn up 2 inputs for the channel that you want to put the compressor on.

For example...

If your mic is on channel one, set it up so it immediately outputs the signal at line level on channel 1's output. Send that signal into your compressor, and then return the compressors output to the channel 2 line input and have Nuendo record that.

If your software is a "hand me down", you really need to go out and purchase it. Cubase SL is only $300 and will mopre than likely do everything you need it to do just as well as Nuendo. In fact, I may even have a legit copy for sale soon.

I was thinking of recording through a plugin, my bad.

well if the q10 has "inserts" for hardware ie. compressor, and the software has plugins then why wouldn't you be able to follow aardvarks instructions and route to the "plugin insert" in the software. I know nuendo does not allow this but i guess i'm still wondering if cubase sl or others has "open insert" plugins? i'll check some sites thanks

I am completely confused by your last statement. What I can tell you is that if Nuendo doe snot have it, then neither does Cubase SE, LE, SL, or SX.
