Problem with midi :-S
Hey, iv just got into using midi properly, mainly for my school work. Basically, when i use for example the vsti edirol quartet i think its called, when i change the particular type of instrument it is using, it changes back to the original one when i replay the song. e.g. steel string guitar -> southern guitar. It allways goes back to the default one so i have not way of keeping it. Any ideas? Thanks

Well you didn't specify what type of sequencer you are using to playback your MIDI files, so it'll be hard to give you specifics. With 99% certainty I'd say this is caused by unwanted program change messages. Either open your event editor (List Editor) and remove any program change messages, or set your sequencer to filter program change messages. This should do the trick. For more specifics, you need to tell us what you use, or refer to your documentation.

OK select a MIDI part and open List Editor from MIDI menu. In this new window on the top left is a dropdown box named "Mask". Click the button to the left of it (The one with an eyeball, checkmark, and X). Now a new row appears. Check all the options except Program Change (Effectively hiding everything else). You can now highlight what ever remains (Program Changes) and delete them, or alter them as you see fit. Repeat procedure for each MIDI track.

hey, thanks that worked, exept for the bass guitar, when i change the volume in the soft synth it works if i do it whilst it is playing, but then when i play from the start, it goes back to full volume on it's own. even though the actual track volume selector stays the same aswel, it just ignors it until you move that. Hmmm, thanks a lot for the other instruments though.

To delete volume data, use the same procedure above but leave Controller unchecked and look for Main Volume data (CC7 is volume control, but Cubase calls it Main Volume). And delete it as neccesary.
