Too much noise!
My guitarist does a lot of finger picking and plays very softly, so my preamps gain is way up...so i'm getting tons of noise on these recordings. my signal chain is Bluebird mic --> presonus eureka --> mbox.
is it my signal chain or do you guys think that the noise is coming from my acoustically deficient bedroom? also waves x-noise does a good job on getting the noise out but really dulls the quality of the guitar. any suggestions? |

How are you positioning the mic??? If he's playing that softly you should be able to get pretty close-in.
You might also try a gate. I think compression will just raise the noise along with the signal. |

Generally cascading gain stages is a bad idea, but have you tried putting half the gain on with the presonus and half the gain on with the Mbox?
