Pervasive freq's on 12 string Ovation

Ok, I’ve pulled my hair out far too long on this one. I’ve been trying to record a song featuring a 12 string Ovation Custom Balladeer (1755). I’m having difficulty harnessing the resonating overtones the guitar is producing while playing arpeggios, mostly open A and D. This is not comb filtering from acoustic distortion, I might add. They are slightly noticeable listening as it is played, but the mic’s are picking these up they are entirely too pervasive when played back. This is what I’ve tried: placing each one of these mic’s, (SM81, Rode NT2, NTK, Sennheiser 441 U3, EV RE-20) one at a time at every conceivable position and angle on the neck, joint, and body, and at various distances; I’ve covered the sound hole; I’ve tried notching out the most offending freq’s but this only exposes the octaves. It’s not monitor placement (LSR28P’s) as they are as obvious in the cans. Changing picks and picking attack helps, but I’m not aggressive on this guitar to begin with. Recording direct is not an option for me. Anyone with a possible solution or workaround?

I had a similar problem. Turned out the room I was in was very responsive to a certain note.
