Volumes louder than..

Hey is it me or is it normal... In Cubase I was mixing down my tracks and I exported them to wavs and played the wavs through Windows Media Player and Winamp and some sounds were actually louder then they were outside of Cubase and my mix was totally different from what is was when I was inside of cubase. Is it my monitors playing tricks on me, or I just figured out why mixing is so hard lol ?

shouldn't really be the case. you defo not accidently automated some of the volume tracks and not noticed earlier when you were in cubase? i often do that.

You must have your windows mixer a little out of whack. It most likely isn't a different mix, it is just compressed or distorted because the signal chain is different.

are you sure it's not due to dithering down to 16 bit? and make sure your Windows Media Player EQs are set flat, like Fairview said

I have a similar problem with Cubase SX 1. The exported audio mixdown allways seems to be quieter than when i play it inside Cubase

How are you measuring the volume? Do the meters read the same?

Im thinking I fix the problem, I just simply fix my volumes in my soundcard controls then I continued to mix in cubase, it doesn't sound exactly like it does in cubase when I export as wav, it actually sounds better which I can work with.
