Recording/backing tracks

I'm looking to house a 19" unit in my guitar rack that can record (live and studio music) and also playback backing tracks on demand.

Is this possible with, say, Alesis HD24 etc... ?

I'm new to recording and any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
Gerry

Yes, although you'll need some sort of mixer for I/O.
