custom-length cables

My studio is looking too cluttered with cables largely because they are too long. I would like to make some that are just the perfect length rather than the 20-footers I have been using. These will all be the 1/4 inch TS/TRS type. I need to make cables for the following:

Source Destination Length (ft) Channels

Maudio DMP3 Yamaha MG10/2 2 2
Yamaha MG10/2 TCElectronics M300 3 2
Yamaha MG10/2 Behringer HA4700 4 2

Balanced or unbalanced? - the components say they can take either
What gauge wire should be used? Stranded or solid-core?
Any recommendations on the terminations?

thanks,
Sathyan

Sathyan,
Go with the balanced and stranded core. Something like this

The 2549 is probably most suitable. Redco has a pretty good selection of connectors too.
