Question digital click in recording

hey folks

i can't believe i'm the first person who has this problem, but i've been looking and i can't find any messages on this

whenever i record audio, thru my TASCAM US-122 or built in mic, i get digital clicks, sort of like a CD skipping a beat.... I use WinXP and i've optimalised my comp based on the tips on http://www.musicxp.net/tuning_tips.php...
my laptop is 40Gb, 1,7 GHz, 512 MB memory and I record my audio on an external 160 Gb hardisk, NTFS

I've installed WuchselsASIO4ALL because someone once told me that could help...of course I also installed the TASCAM drivers, and I had the same problem with the original soundcard of my laptop...I even updated all sound AND videocard drivers (SiS)...the problems are there wether I record with Audacity or Cubase, or some other program I forgot the name of...

all signs indicate a processor problem, but I've seen much slower computers perform way better....where did I go wrong? This is very frustrating as I seem to have wasted all that money that I originally considered to be a good investment...I'm now back to recording on tape

See if you can disable hyperthreading in the BIOS, if you are running a P4 processor.
