dmp3 or new mixer? ($300)

hello everyone. ive been doing lots of recordings for the past 3 months and have found that my behringer ub1202 is very subpar for vocals. VERY subpar... for the styles of singing, ranging from punk rock screams to acoustic soul singing, its practically impossible for me to get a good sound out of the ub1202's pres.

im also interested in recording drums in the near future, but dont have money for extra mics atm.

my question is should i look into getting a new mixer (maybe a mackie vlz or ive heard a lot about the onyx) or should i just get the m-audio dmp3 for now and maybe another one when i plan on micing my drum set u? my budget at the moment is only about $300, but i can always save if the mixer is more recommended.

Sell the 1202 for $50. Then get one DMP3 and two SP VTB1. Now for a budget of around $350 you've got your vocals, acoustic instruments, bass and electric guit DI covered, and you have four useable mic pres for drums.

im not sure what u mean by signalchain, but if its how i record i have an audiophile 2496 in my amd xp 2000+ cpu, 1 gig ram computer with cubase sx 2.0. then i have the behringer ub1202 mixer and various other things like the podxt, a microkorg, a guitar, bass, and an sm58.

what im recording is live audio recordings that are anything from punk rock to jazz to folk. so i'd be recording guitars, bass, vocals, and maybe my piano. like i said id also like to start recording drums (cuz im just using the lm7 built in with cubase right now... usually i dont even use drums ;o)
