Line 6 GuitarPort?

Hey, I'm totally new to recording music. I've used my microphone but it sounds like we're playing live. I'm looking to buy something and yesterday while browsing The Offspring forums, I found this.

http://www.guitarport.com/overview.html

First off, it seems too cheap. Something like that has to cost atleast $500 right? Or, the quality must be horrible. If anybody has some good recommendations to buy one for under $200, that would be great; unless this one is good, that would be sweet. Thanks a lot!

I've been playing guitar for 7 years and I personally believe that guitar port, which I have owned since christmas 04, is one of the best things I have ever used. If you have a chance to get it then go for it. The sounds that come out of this thing are unbelievable. I use it to record directly to my computer through a usb port.If this thing were 600.00 dollars I would have still bought it.

Slightly off topic but,

Can you record with the guitarport to another sequencer or do you have to use some of Line 6's own software? I've looked at these a bit and know they use the same amp models as the Pod XT but thats about it.

Cheers
Joe

The guitar port doesn't come with software to record, but its used as like a plug in, I have cool edit pro(now called adobe audition) and I just select to record from that instead of a mic and it records it directly. Also Line 6 offers something called the rifftracker or something but i've never used it.

Well, I think I'm going to go with it. Can I use a bass with it as well? That would be a major plus.

Hmmm, I don't have a bass and I haven't used one with it, but with one of the free updates from guitarport that I downloaded theres a bass setting with about 10 or so presets.
