Am I Stupid?

I have a Boss Br-532 4-track. I was wondering if I could get an 8-track and link the two together for a total of 12 tracks. I had an analog 4-track a long time ago that was capable of doing this. Is this a hard thing to do if it is even still possbile?

Is your Boss a Daw? I would assume that you need to get some kind of word clock to sync the two Daws together, unless the new 8-track you buy allows you to do that or your old Boss allows you to link up the two.

I don't have a 532, but I couldn't find anything about it listing any sort of Midi capabilities...
I use a Fostex VF16 and also have a Fostex MR8 that I keep around for notebook-type recording duties... There have been times that I needed to go beyond the 8 simultaneous tracks afforded by the VF16, so I run from the Midi Out of my MR8 (it doesn't have 'In') to the Midi In on the VF16, which allows them to stay in synch via MTC.
When I hit 'Record' on the MR8, the VF16 automatically starts and I'm allowed to now record 2 more tracks via the MR8.
However,
Data being recorded to the MR8 doesn't end up on the VF16 hard drive... But since the tracks are all perfectly in synch, I have to either dump them all into my laptop for mixing, or transfer what the MR8 did to the VF16.

Again tho, it doesn't appear as if your Boss gives you this capability... There are plenty of affordable options out there if/when you're ready to upgrade (I got both the MR8 and the VF16 for around $500).

Good luck!
