Stealing your eBay UserID fraud "Breach of User Agreement"

I believe this is a new one. I have not received an email like this before. In this email they claim that your account has been suspended because of a "breach in the user agreement". There's then a link to a fake site to protest the matter. Where, of course, you have to sign in. Which is where they steal your id.

Just thought everyone around here might want to know about it.

Here's what the email says. I've deleted the link from the email so that no one accidentally clicks on it and for some reason gives their userid and pass info. Notice how it says dear "jimmymac@new.--.com" instead of using my eBay userID like eBay always does.

Dear Jimmymac@new.--.com,

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due
to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community.

As we state in the User Agreement, Section 8, we may immediately issue
a warning, suspend, or terminate your membership and refuse to provide
our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause legal
liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if you
have breached the User Agreement or if we are unable to verify or
authenticate any information you provide to us.

If you feel you have been suspended in error or want to appeal this decision
by providing additional information, please click here :

Due to the suspension of this account, please note that you are
prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new
account.

Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your
obligation to pay any fees you may currently owe to eBay.

Regards,

eBay Trust and Safety

I got something EXTREMELY similar from a PayPal email address - I signed in and was redirected to a page in which I was to fill out my credit card, personal history and checking account routing - including password reminder questions - LOL.

I took one look at it and went to PayPal.com to change my password. Yikes.

Yeah, it's called phishing. I've gotten so many of those is the past year...

Be sure to forward to eBay abuse. Include the mail headers too, so they can try and catch this clod.

Yea, it's bullshit. Go to eBay and find out the address where you forward that to.

Definitely something to watch out for. I've gotten emails before from "eBay customer service" saying that somebody accessed my account illegally and that it will be suspended if I don't log in and change my password. The subject header always contains the phrase "TKO Notice".

I got one the other day saying that someone had accessed my washington mutual account without authorization...

I knew something was off because I dont have a washington mutual account.

I found it pretty funny, because when I checked who the email was sent to, it appears that it's sent to the entire class for the physics lecture I had last quarter (an address that sends it out to everyone enrolled in that section). Funny stuff.

Got a paypal one back before I had a paypal account, also.

Arrow Anything like that, from "Ebay" or "Paypal" are all fraudulent.

Please FORWARD those items to spoof@ebay.com and they'll take care of it.

Never click or respond to those "spoof" emails! They may look authentic, but they're all ripoffs!!

Its funny how you all may be aware but they still manage to get someone. The scary thing is they are getting more creative.

My Email Had The EBay URL

What I couldn't understand is the email I received, "Someone has attempted to log into your account from a foreign IP address 102.35.24.354 yada, yada, yada", had a link that brought me to an EBay URL.

So, I contacted Ebay customer service who requested I contact spoof@ebay.com.

Ebay confirmed it was phishing.

I was not surprised, but how did they get an EBay URL?

Scary stuff!
