Question about magnetic shielding (monitors)

I had my mind set on buying the M-Audio BX5 monitors (they are magnetically shielded), but then, by accident, I stumbled upon a nice deal on the M-Audio BX8 monitors.

But the following question soon arose in the back of my head: How far away from my computer screen will I have to place the BX8s in order to prevent interference?

It could be two or three feet, depending on the size of the woofer magnet.

Well, I don't have the money for an LCD right now, but it probably will come eventually. Seems like the BX8s are shielded then. the reason I was unsure of this was because it didn't say if they were shielded or not on the m-audio site. Thanks alot anyway

The BX8's are shielded (in case that wasn't made clear).

Question about shielding:

I have a pair of Dayton monitors(built them from a kit), and they are not shielded. I just got a huge 22" NEC Diamondtron CRT, and even at like 3-4 feet to the sides the monitors are still causing the CRT to be discolored in certain areas.

how can i rememedy this situation without A)buying a new CRT and B)buying new monitors ???

I have a 17" LCD, but i got this NEC CRT for 50 bucks and it's well worth it, plus the desk i'm using is a corner desk that is specifically designed for huge CRTs.

Thanks!!

You can't. Magnetic shielding is misleading. 'Shielded' monitors have speakers with magnets that are shaped in such a way that the magnetic field they give off doesn't go very far. You can't, as far as I know, actually shield something from a magnetic field.
